The Commonwealth Department of Health is extending the funding for the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP)are being extended for up to two years from 1 July 2018 to 30 June 2020.
More than 925,000 older people received CHSP (or the equivalent HACC in Victoria and Western Australia) services in 2015-16, costing the government $2 billion. However, the demand for these packages far outstrips the available packages available. In 2015-16 the average expenditure per CHSP consumer was around $2,086.
Originally the CHSP was to be absorbed into the Home Care Package program on July 1 2018. When compared to the lowest home care package cost of $8,157, extending the CHSP program makes a lot of economic sense for both the government and the consumers.
